Advocate Harbour Lighthouse. Destroyed 1967
My parents Vance & Sina Barteaux were keepers of this Light from 1920 to 1938. My story relates their life & times raising six children on this sand bar in the Harbour. These tales were told to me by my family & their friends. The images on this page are watercolours by MVB.
Download " Our Lighthouse Lifetime " and share in their journey.

The original Cape d'Or from the point. Destroyed 1968
In 1938 my parents were promoted to Cape d'Or Light & Fog Alarm Station five miles around the mountain, where I grew up. I continue on telling the tale from when I first went out to this Lighthouse, as a baby, until I left at age 17.

When I came to Gimli Manitoba in 1960 I came with a Lighthouse background. As I started to work in watercolours I realized that on such a vast inland sea there must be Lighthouses. Who would have thought I would find 12 that are now obsolete. They were all on Lake Winnipeg except one on Lake Winnipegosis. Order a Print. Contact me above. Print's > $75.00 each. Matted ready for framing. Price includes shipping. Matt Size 8 1/2" x 11"  or  9"x 12".
